Evans City, PA
Quality in the Bottle; from your hometown dairy
Marburger Farm Dairy is a locally owned and operated facility that has remained in the Marburger family for over 170 years! In 1838, George Marburger Sr. arrived in Baltimore from Germany. In 1842, he purchased 100 acres of land in Evans City, Pa for $1.25 per acre. In 1923, his son Adam who had previously maintained the area raising draft horses, converted the farm into a dairy operating facility. Just over ten years later, Adam and his wife Georgia bought a small dairy at May Stop and produced three cases of quart bottles on the first day of operation. Milk was shipped to the nearby city of Pittsburgh via the Harmony Line streetcars. The operation grew and a few years later the dairy was moved to the homestead farm where it remains today. Adam’s sons Martin, Vernon, and Joe operated the dairy as partners until the death of Joe in 1968, Vernon in 1983, and Martin in 2011. Today James Marburger (Martin’s Son) along with his children are proprietors of the establishment.
Although our own facility milks well over one hundred cows twice a day, it is not enough to fulfill the demand. We ship in milk from approximately seventy nearby farms, all of whom have signed the rBST free pledge. Four days a week 25,000+ gallons of milk are processed, bottled, cooled, shipped, and delivered with the help of over 90 employees.
So where does it all go? Nearly 1800 home deliveries are made each week and over 2500 schools, hospitals, restaurants, grocery stores, and other businesses are served as well.
